Applicants must have an advanced degree in a science-related discipline or clinical field, preferably in the areas of oncology, hematology, and/or rare diseases. Applicants must also have 2 – 4 years of agency/client experience and experience working with pharmaceutical accounts as a lead writer. The ideal candidate’s responsibilities and job functions for this role include (but are not limited to):

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Produce a range of printed and electronic materials for medical and marketing pharma/biotech teams
  • Provide strategic direction for the development of scientific content across multiple therapeutic areas
  • Immersion into available data on the assigned therapeutic area
  • Develop understanding of key messages and marketing strategies
  • Develop content for projects, consistent with company and client guidelines and industry best practices
  • Ensure all pieces are medically accurate and properly referenced
  • Provide direction to external writers, assist with development, editing, and review of content they prepare, and critically evaluate their work
  • Make corrections, recommendations, and suggestions for content changes
  • Work closely with pharma, medical, and marketing clients and external authors as required
  • Keep abreast of current medical information, developments, and trends

Research and Information Management

  • Research and source appropriate medical literature for editorial projects and proposals utilizing various information sources such as in-house reference library, journal subscriptions, academic libraries, and literature search databases (eg, PubMed)
  • Update and maintain in-house reference library and filing systems

General Writing

  • Assist with concept development for editorial projects
  • Incorporate feedback from internal colleagues, clients, and faculty
  • Proofread all work to comply with in-house, client, and/or AMA style guides
  • Seek opportunities to develop skills in research, writing, and information technology

Project Management

  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed on time and within budget
  • Provide advance notice when timelines are likely to be compromised
  • Regularly communicate with internal project teams and clients
  • Assist in the creative development and writing of new business pitches and proposals
  • Attend and present at client meetings
  • Seize opportunities for organic growth of business and advise colleagues of potential opportunities for new business
  • Play an active role in building and maintaining client confidence and trust

Business Development

  • Assist in the creative development and writing of new business pitches and proposals

Meeting Attendance

  • Attend medical conferences, scientific symposia, and other client-related meetings
  • Assist with on-site activities

This is a remote position; however, applicants who reside in the greater Atlanta area will be given preference. Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
